Ce Mini-cours bi-annuel se propose d'exposer un sujet de pointe et d'actualité en topologie algébrique. Il se présente sous la forme de cours, assortis de séances d'exercices, animés par des spécialistes du sujet. Il s'adresse ainsi particulièrement aux jeunes chercheurs mais est bien entendu ouvert à tous.
Cette année les conférenciers sont: Greg Arone et Ismar Volic (Université de Virginie, Etats-Unis) et Pascal Lambrechts (Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgique). Les cours seront en anglais et ils traiteront de:
Calculus of functors and applications
Calculus of functors is a theory invented by Tom Goodwillie and then developed further by Goodwillie and Michael Weiss. The original motivation came from geometric topology, and the theory also had interesting applications in homotopy theory. For instance, one brand of calculus ("embedding calculus"), together with Kontsevich's theorem on the formality of the little cubes operad, has led to very concrete results on the topology of the space of knots in dimension higher than three. To extend the results to other spaces of embeddings, one needs to invoke another interesting brand of calculus, called orthogonal calculus, which has other applications as well.The goal of the course will be to explain the calculus framework, concentrating on embedding calculus and orthogonal calculus. Emphasis will be put on examples. The course should be accessible to graduate students in topology. |
